Don’t Let a Tight Budget Stop You from Seeing the World!

If you find yourself staring out of your window all day while you are at work dreaming about all of the foreign and exciting places that you could visit, then it’s time for you to stop work and take a vacation.

Of course, that’s easier said than done if money isn’t a concern. However, if it is, this doesn’t mean that you can’t still see the world. You just need to know a few tricks from a seasoned traveler to help you keep your costs down.

From years of travel, here are my top tips to help you travel on a tight budget.

  1. Packages Are #1
    1. I can’t stress this enough. If you aren’t big on making your own arrangements, look for a tour company or check out the Groupon Coupons page for Emirates for deep discounts just for booking your flight and accommodation with the same merchant. In addition to just a discount on hotel and accommodation, these sites and services can also offer you deals on attractions and activities during your stay.
  2. Is There a Holiday in Nine Months’ Time?
    1. If you know that you will have an extra-long weekend in a few months’ time, book a holiday now. Even if it’s 10 months away, look at prices and consider booking as soon as possible. Airlines let you book up to a year in advance and will offer you discounts for giving them your money earlier than you need to.
      1. Just remember to book an extra few days off work to make it an even better vacation!
    2. Keep Your Bags Light
      1. Speaking of airlines, many will offer you a heavily discounted flight if you agree to take only a carry-on bag. While this is often enough to turn off would-be adventurers, you can pack a lot into a carry-on size bag. The next time you see this offer, look up the airline’s carry-on allowance and see how creative you can get with your packing.
    3. Eat Locally
      1. And I mean locally. Instead of looking for fancy restaurants or logos which you remember from back home, look for a street food vendor which has the longest line and get in it. Locals don’t want to spend lots of money for their everyday meals and know where the best food is, so take advantage of their knowledge.
    4. Entertainment
      1. Keeping yourself entertained on vacation can often be the most expensive part. However, it doesn’t have to be. Look through your social media outlets for local groups which offer smaller tours and adventures around the town by locals. Additionally, speak with the local tourist bureau about free and discounted activities happening around the city while you are visiting. Often times these places will be able to provide you with options for free transport to many of the attractions.

Just because your bank account isn’t overflowing doesn’t mean that the world is closed to you. These five tips are a great way to get your budget-conscious adventure started. So, what are you waiting for? Get online, book that vacation, and enjoy what the world has to offer!
